FROM
THE LYMINGTON RIVER ASSOCIATION. (LRA).
The
introduction of much larger ferries to the Lymington River has
serious implications for the fragile environment, which is already
under threat, as the Harbour Commissioners have recently shown.
Proper detailed studies need to be carried out to establish the true
facts about erosion, and ferry effects.
In
the opinion of the LRA, (a group of Lymington residents dedicated to
minimising damage to the river and loss of its amenities for future
generations,) those responsible for protecting the river, Natural
England and the NFDC, should carry out a full Environmental Impact
Assessment (EIA), which we believe is required by law in this river
which is protected to the highest level as it is an “SSSI”.
(Site of Special Scientific Interest.)
This EIA
should also take into account concerns about increased traffic load
through the National Park, and the impact on other river users.
If you feel that this issue is important to you and your family, and wish to register your support and concern about the ferries’ impact, then please fill out this Petition or contact us directly.
Given
enough public demand, and aided by our enthusiastic MP, we can bring
more effective pressure to bear on the authorities, and the unique
river can be conserved for future generations to enjoy. There is so
much at stake.
I
wish to register my concern
about the impact of larger ferries on the river, and my support for a
proper EIA to be carried out without delay.
